For Resort SS23, Anna Foster, Founder and Creative Director of E.L.V. DENIM and Gabriela Hearst, Founder and Creative Director of Gabriela Hearst collaborated on two unique designs.
The designs were inspired by their mothers. “I sketched the first outline of the jean the first time we spoke, inspired by the photo of Gabriela’s mother on her desk,” says Anna Foster. “Unbeknownst to me, this was also reflected in the mood boards Gabriela later shared, and it was the basis of our collaboration. My mother is also a huge inspiration to me.”
Combining references from Gabriela’s archive with Anna’s unique way of constructing her jeans, the two designers created a complete denim look. Vintage jeans are reworked into abstract curved lines on flare-leg pants and contrasted with graphic shapes on shirts. The two pieces were made entirely from upcycled post- consumer waste denim that were sourced and colour matched by hand, and produced locally by E.L.V. DENIM in London. Each garment is one of a kind.
Coming together over a shared ethos of sustainability and conscious fashion, the collaboration was completely natural. “Our brands are governed by our personal beliefs, and when those align, you know you are working towards the same goals” - Anna Foster.
