GABRIELLA HEARST X E.L.V. DENIM.
For Resort SS23, Anna Foster, Founder and Creative Director of E.L.V. DENIM and Gabriela Hearst, Founder and Creative Director of Gabriela Hearst collaborated on two unique designs.
The designs were inspired by their mothers. “I sketched the first outline of the jean the first time we spoke, inspired by the photo of Gabriela’s mother on her desk,” says Anna Foster. “Unbeknownst to me, this was also reflected in the mood boards Gabriela later shared, and it was the basis of our collaboration. My mother is also a huge inspiration to me.”
Combining references from Gabriela’s archive with Anna’s unique way of constructing her jeans, the two designers created a complete denim look. Vintage jeans are reworked into abstract curved lines on flare-leg pants and contrasted with graphic shapes on shirts. The two pieces were made entirely from upcycled post- consumer waste denim that were sourced and colour matched by hand, and produced locally by E.L.V. DENIM in London. Each garment is one of a kind.
Coming together over a shared ethos of sustainability and conscious fashion, the collaboration was completely natural. “Our brands are governed by our personal beliefs, and when those align, you know you are working towards the same goals” - Anna Foster.
"It takes 7,000 litres of water to make the average new pair of jeans which is the equivalent to the amount of water one person drinks in 13 years. Using up-cycled denim drastically reduces water usage, E.L.V. DENIM jeans use only 7 litres."
Vintage denim shirt textiles are reworked into a western inspired fitted shirt. The shirts were made entirely from up-cycled post-consumer denim shirts that were sourced and colour matched by hand, and produced locally by E.L.V. DENIM in London. Each garment is one of a kind.

ABOUT THE DESIGNERS
GABRIELLA HEARST
Gabriela honored her family’s heritage through the launch of her eponymous label in Fall 2015 after taking over
the operations of her father’s ranch in Uruguay. She wanted to create a brand that reflects a slower pace and
process: where things are made with care and detail, where tradition is more important than trend, where there
is a purpose to every piece. Gabriela’s commitment is to make a strong and modern collection without
compromising her ethics and key values, taking into consideration where materials come from and who is
making them: luxury with a conscience, or in other words, “honest luxury”. In 2018, Gabriela was appointed to
the board of trustees of Save the Children.
ANNA FOSTER
Our founder Anna Foster witnessed first-hand the large-scale overconsumption in the fashion industry through her role as a stylist. She realised that with considered upcycling and fabric-first curated sourcing, we can meet the global demand for design-led luxury fashion and be kinder to the environment. It’s a win-win. This is why every stage of our production process is environmentally and socially conscious, from sourcing and local production to selling.
In a world of overconsumption, we can make a difference.
We can champion slow fashion, craftsmanship and attention to detail. We can do better for the planet. There’s plenty of life left in garments destined for landfill, especially denim, a fabric that was created to be hard-wearing and long-lasting.
